This resource is a comprehension activity for year 2. There are three differentiated booklets on the story of The First Christmas. The middle ability booklet is based on the KS1 SATs reading paper. There are a range of ‘what,’ ‘where,’ ‘who’ and ‘why’ questions, some multiple choice tick questions and some that require more detailed answers. The activity is also laid out in a similar way to the SATs booklets, with four pages with short written extracts to read and 5 questions per page. There is a colour and black & white version of each of the three booklets. Answers are also included. PDF file format. This year 1 comprehension booklet teaches the children about lots of British royal baby facts, including bizarre traditions, royal baby names, royal baby christenings and royal baby clothes. Higher Ability The higher ability booklet contains a title page with helpful words, followed by five pages of pictures and short written extracts to read and 4-5 questions per page. Answers are included. Middle Ability The middle ability booklet contains a title page, followed by five pages of comprehension activities with answers. Each page contains a short piece of text (about 3-7 sentences). There are 3-4 trickier words on each page which have pictures to help children work out what they say. Each text is followed by 4-5 simple questions. Lower Ability The lower ability booklet contains a title page, followed by five pages of comprehension activities with answers. This is a bundle of three presentations on Emily Davison, Emmeline Pankhurst and Millicent Fawcett, who all fought for votes for women. The Emmeline Pankhurst presentation covers Emmeline’s childhood, the suffrage movement, her protests, her imprisonment and the results of the movement. The presentation on Emily Davison covers Emily’s education, before moving onto her actions in the suffragette movement, her imprisonment and force feeding and finally her death and legacy. The presentation on Millicent Fawcett covers her childhood, early political involvement and the successful suffrage movement. Please note that there are no photos of the women included, owing to copyright restrictions. The last part of each presentation includes some interesting questions to provoke discussion.
